5 Book Recommendations on Business, Personal Finance, Neuroscience, and Creative Thinking (January 2025)

I am thrilled to share my 5 book recommendations on topics in Business, Personal Finance, Neuroscience/Brain Science, and Creative Thinking to help you kick-start your year of maximum personal growth!

1. Inside Apple: How America’s Most Admired–and Secretive–Company Really Works (2012)

Inside Apple is an insightful and fascinating book about how Apple Inc., one of the world’s most valuable companies since 2010, has operated and transformed since 1996, and how it has become the iconic technology company it is today.

Despite the company’s secretive nature, the author Adam Lashinsky interviewed numerous former Apple employees to map out a detailed understanding of how Apple Inc. has built its success.

2. The Psychology of Money: Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness (2020)

A thought-provoking book on human behaviour, psychology, and financial decisions. Written by Morgan Housel, a former journalist at the Wall Street Journal and a partner at the Collaborative Fund.

Highly recommended to people who care about their finances – as the book explores and analyzes the different ways people think about money and how we could all better sense our biases and misconceptions while making financial decisions.

3. Shoe Dog: A Memoir By the Creator of NIKE (2016)

Written by Phil Knight, the founder and CEO of NIKE himself, Shoe Dog is full of inside stories depicting NIKE’s early days.

It is exciting to learn how Phil Knight started the company and overcame setbacks, while simultaneously forming the company culture. Today, NIKE has become the world’s largest athletic shoe and apparel manufacturer as well as one of the most recognizable brands globally since its founding in 1964 as the “Blue Ribbon Sports”.

4. Brain Rules: 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School (2008)

One of the most rewarding, useful, and engaging books to read on neuroscience. Brain Rules offers valuable insights into how our brains function and interact with our everyday lives and circumstances. The book provides the knowledge necessary to help us better optimize and influence every aspect of our lives.

The author John Medina is a developmental molecular biologist with a special focus on human brain development.

5. Lateral Thinking (1967)

Lateral Thinking is by far the most original and revolutionary book I have ever read on creative thinking. Edward de Bono, the Maltese physician, originated the term “lateral thinking” as an alternative way of thinking against “vertical thinking”, and taught us how we could develop our ability to think laterally.

Edward de Bono holds a medical degree from the University of Malta and a Master’s degree in psychology and physiology. He also held faculty appointments at the University of Oxford, Cambridge, London, and Harvard.
